Ijara Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of six constituencies in Garissa County. It was the sole constituency in the former Ijara District. The constituency was established for the 1988 elections. The constituency has four wards, all electing members of county assembly for the Ijara County Council.

Our key achievements:

  • 1. Uplift education standards in ijara constituency by providing free secondary education through cdf and supporting other education dockets
  • 2. Combat security challenges and ensure safety and security for my constituents
  • 3. Provide good infrastructure, health facilities and water to the people of ijara

The constituency will uphold the following core values:

  1. Unity and Cohesion: The constituency will work towards unity of purpose.
  2. Inclusivity: The constituency will ensure that all ethnic community groups are part of the constituency development initiatives as participants and beneficiaries.
  3. Integrity, Transparency and Accountability: The constituency leadership will observe honesty and transparency in utilization of resources and implementation of development strategies.
  4. Equity and Equality: Ijara will strive to ensure equity in distribution of resources to minimize gaps between wards/regions.
  5. Non-discrimination: The constituency will offer services to all residents based on their needs, without consideration of affiliation (religion, clan, political). The leadership will develop criteria for bursary vetting and allocation within the constituency. All cross-cutting issues will be factored in the entire projects’ cycle.
  6. Protection of the Marginalized: Ijara is Arid and will continue to ensure equitable distribution of available resources within the constituency.
  7. Sustainable Development: The Ijara committee is determined to initiate and complete projects (with all components) within the plan period (bite that which can be swallowed). The constituency will ensure that programmes and projects factor continuity aspects during implementation.
  8. Efficient, Effective and Economic use of Resources: The constituency will comply with all necessary laws and regulations. It will also prepare guidelines on programmes and projects within the constituency (with guidance on costing, timelines, specifications, etc).
  9. Involvement of the people in the process of policy making: The constituency will continue to involve key stakeholders in the programme and project cycle.
  10. Professionalism: The constituency leadership will continue to work/engage with technical officers from line ministries in implementing programmes and projects. The NG-CDFC has always endeavoured to train/sensitize Projects Management Committees (PMCs) before the onset of projects.
  11. Fair Competition: The constituency will adhere to procurement and financial laws and regulations while implementing programmes and projects. The NG-CDFC will undertake a merit-based evaluation of contractors before commencement of projects.
